Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, in a statement on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the start of NATO air strikes, said that that was an act which enabled Kosovo’s people to live freely today. “NATO air strikes on the Serb military and police forces were in defense of peace, the prevention of genocide, the forced eviction of the population, the destruction of life and property of the citizens of Kosovo.

Global powers intervene in attempt to quell the bloodshed and implement an imperfect ceasefire stalemate. Eventually, events on the ground overtake the status quo and a new country unilaterally declares independence. A majority of United Nations members, but not all, recognise the independence of this new country – while others persist in denying the new reality for years.

Koha Ditore’s Brussels based correspondent writes in his opinion piece today about the initial expectations of Kosovo population regarding the establishment of the EULEX mission in Kosovo. “Kosovo people loved their independence, they did not believe that the structures of their state would be able or that they would have the political will to fight the organized crime and corruption up to the most senior level…Therefore, except for Vetevendosje, no one opposed the EULEX mission.

Isa Mustafa, Prime Minister of Kosovo, informed today during the government meeting that the European Union High Representative, Frederica Mogherini, will be visiting Kosovo on 26 March.

Mustafa also informed that the government will meet on Monday with the Council of Ministers from Albania.

The Prime Minister also informed that the Government will be presenting the package of the draft laws for human rights.

Kosovo’s Minister of European Integration, Bekim Collaku, said on Thursday that the resolution adopted by European Parliament on Wednesday gives Kosovo strong support to the European prospects and that the European Parliament remains one of the most supportive institutions of Kosovo and its European integration process.  Collaku added that Kosovo government welcomes the recommendations contained in this resolution dealing with reforms in the areas of rule of law, justice, public administration and  commitment to fighting organized crime and corrup

The European Union Office in Kosovo considers unacceptable the initiative of the Municipal Assembly of Ranilug to name a road in this municipality with the name of late Serbia President Slobodan Milosevic. According to the news portal, the EU Office said that such initiative does not contribute to dialogue and understanding between different communities in Kosovo. "Proposal to name a street after a person indicted by the Hague Tribunal is unacceptable," said EU Office officials.

Fatmir Limaj, the leader of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), told RTV 21 that he would not remain silent regarding the scandal of judicial conspiracy against him, related to “Klecka” case. He said that he will act according to the advice of his lawyer and added that he cannot understand why President Jahjaga remained silent regarding this scandal. “In essence, we have violation of the rights, for which the President of the Republic of Kosovo is the guarantee, defender of the constitution in this country,” LImaj said.

Dimitris Avramopolous, the European Commissioner for Migration, praised the downward trend in illegal migration from Kosovo, saying visa liberalisation with the EU was in reach.
