Writer and analyst from Kosovo and Methohija Živojin Rakočević claims that if Kosovo becomes member of UNESCO it would be one of the most difficult defeats of Serbia in the 21th century. "The first one was separation of Montenegro, the second was self-declaration of (independent) Kosovo and the third one would be membership of Kosovo in UNESCO," said Rakočević

Following the decision of the UNESCO Executive Council to support proposal for Kosovo’s  membership in this organization, it remains questionable what are Serbia’s abilities for changing this decision in November at UNESCO General Conference, which is due to decide about Kosovo’s membership.

Despite the decision of the UNESCO Executive Council to recommend Kosovo's membership to the General Conference, Serbia's Ambassador to UNESCO Darko Tanaskovic estimated Serbia's chances as "not small", to block Kosovo's admission into the UNESCO.

UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia Irena Vojackova-Sollorano said that the decision on Kosovo's entry into UNESCO would be on governments of member states and the UN to create conditions for free dialogue.

"The UN creates a place and a platform for dialogue, and then it is up to the Governments to discuss and decide how they want to continue, of course with respect for the culture," said Vojackova-Sollorano on the Radio Television of Serbia.

The Radio Belgrade director and long-time correspondent from Kosovo, Milivoje Mihajlovic, said to RTS that Serbia did not lose the battle for preservation of Serbian monuments. Serious job and diplomatic initiative lies ahead, which has to be finalized in November when UNESCO General Conference is due to take place.

Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said today that the main objective of his ministry was to ensure that the health system in Kosovo functions and expressed satisfaction that in the area of health care, there were no major problems.

Loncar said that there were no major problems with the supply of drugs and procedures and announced that Serbia would open new departments and new services in hospitals in Kosovo.

Serbia has launched a diplomatic initiative to change counts in the draft platform of the so called Kosovo Chapter 35, which was proposed by Germany in the EU accession process. In next couple days Serbia will make efforts aimed at having better text of the platform of Chapter 35, through friendly states in the Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU (COELA), which is practically the last step before European leaders adopt the final platform.

The French Ambassador to Serbia Christine Moro said that Chapter 35 does not have anything that was not included in the Brussels agreement, and that they want Belgrade and Pristina to normalise relations.

Moro said that it would be good now to open Chapter 35 as it would prove that the dialogue has produced results and that Serbia was making progress in the accession talks.

Citizens of Serbia should know what would be jeopardized, most dramatically, if decision is made that we set a Kosovo wall toward the EU and the West, said leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement and former foreign minister Vuk Draskovic.

The political representatives of the Kosovo Serbs, not counting officials of the ruling coalition in Serbia, say that no one in the field was too surprised by what is happening now in connection with the Brussels dialogue and European integration.
