Tanin: Women are the most important part of society (KIM radio)

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, representatives of international missions in Kosovo held a public tribune today on "improving the agenda for women, peace and security in Kosovo,'' reports KIM radio.

"Women are the most important part of society in Kosovo, as well as in the Western Balkans. Their voices must be heard, their role must be respected," said UNMIK chief Zahir Tanin at the conference.

Communities from Kosovo talk in Ljubljana on trust building (Serbian media)

A two-day forum on trust building in Kosovo is being held in Ljubljana with participation of more than 150 participants, including UNMIK, municipal leadership and administration, civil society, media and religious communities, Serbian media report. Panel discussion on "The role of women in society, focus on the region of Mitrovica" was held at the Cultural Center in Zvecan, reports Radio Mitrovica Sever.

This event was opened by Mayor Vucina Jankovic, who said that the eighth of March was not a regular day, but the day when the loudest messages about women's rights can be heard from all sides, but that it should be discussed every day of the year.

UN Security Council to discuss situation in Kosovo tomorrow (Lajmi/RTK)

Situation in Kosovo will be the focus of tomorrow’s meeting of the UN Security Council where the member states will discuss the most recent report of the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, covering the period from 16 July to 15 October.  Serbia will be represented at the session by Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic whereas the UN SG’s report will be presented by his Special Representative, Zahir Tanin.

The United Nations says the failure by Kosovo lawmakers to form a government more than two months after elections is causing the country to miss out on "important" economic and social opportunities.
