Three draft Laws on the Kosovo Security Force were adopted, on the proposal of the Commission for Internal Affairs of the Assembly of Kosovo and forwarded to the Assembly for adoption.

NATO has assessed that the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) is a question for the Kosovo authorities.

A NATO official told Radio Free Europe on Thursday that "any change in the structure, mandate, and mission of the KSF will require constitutional amendments" and that it "supports the development of the force “under its current mandate."

The KSF s also described as "a professional, multi-ethnic force, and a source of regional stability," Beta reported.

Vice President of the Serbian List Igor Simic says that the goal of the draft bill on the establishment of Kosovo Army is to create tensions after the visit of the Serbian president to Kosovo, but also to divert public attention from the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

The proposal of the Statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO) should be presented on the 4th of August in Brussels. That deadline was given to Pristina when the Serbs, five years after the signing of the Brussels Agreement, announced that they would form the Community themselves, reports Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

Serbs in Kosovo do not support the formation of an army in Kosovo, and it will not be formed, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin has said.

NATO supports development of the Kosovo Security Forces within the mandate they were established upon, and if it changes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization would reconsider the level of its engagement in Kosovo, NATO said, Serbian media reported.

“NATO does not decide on the structure, mandate and mission of the Kosovo Security Forces. This is an internal matter of the Kosovo institutions,” reads the NATO response sent to Radio Free Europe.

Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director, Marko Djuric urged Serbs in Kosovo not to join the “illegal army of Kosovo” and reminded that “under the Serbian Criminal Code, entering into service of illegal, foreign armed formations is unlawful and punishable with up to ten years in prison,” Radio kontakt plus reported.

He stressed that the formation of an illegal army in Kosovo is contrary to the Resolution 1244, the Kumanovo Agreement and against the goal of the Serbian state – which is a long-term stability.
