The front page of the paper says that new elections in Kosovo are unavoidable because “all the other alternatives to overcome the political crisis, created since the establishment of an insatiable government of elephants, and later the signing of the anti-constitutional agreements, have been exhausted.”  Kosova Sot further notes that based on the Constitution, the power to dissolve the Assembly and announce the date for new elections belongs to the President.

Today Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, criticized the actions and violence exercised during protests by opposition parties. Thaci also spoke about the presidential elections, and promised that the elections will begin, in line with the Constitution.

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, has called the MPs from his party to meet tomorrow at 13:00 p.m. Sources within the party told Gazeta Blic that Mustafa will request them to vote Hashim Thaci for President of Kosovo. He will ask them to at least be present at the Assembly to establish the required quorum for voting Thaci for President,” said this source. Several MPs from LDK announced that they will prevent Hashim Thaci from being elected.

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Vjosa Osmani called on her party colleagues to prevent the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci from becoming the new Kosovo president. She said the only way to achieve this is by the LDK MPs not participating in the Assembly session when Thaci is expected to be voted for president. She explained that it is required for at least ten LDK MPs, plus the opposition ones, to boycott the session leaving it without a quorum and unable to vote on the motion.

Halil Matoshi writes today that quarrels and aggressive discourse against the opposition cannot overcome the situation “of the small and clashed country” as referred to Kosovo in the western media. He considers that the solution stands in an offer for a political, unconditioned discussion, which would not exclude early elections.

The news site reports that a delegation of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) led by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa laid flowers at the monument of former LDK member and publicist Enver Maloku who was gunned down by unknown assailants in January 1999. Mustafa was quoted as saying that he hopes the Special Court, which has yet to become operational, will shed light on the killings of LDK members. “We have gathered here today to express our outrage with the despicable act and also to express our commitment to help resolve these killings and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Mustafa said.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, praised his party at the ceremony organized for the 26 anniversary of the establishment of the Democratic League of Kosovo. He said that he is conducting LDK’s authentic spirit and faith in the democratic processes of Kosovo also at the government that he is currently leading.

The paper’s front-page editorial argues that different ministers of the Kosovo government make different statements on the same day and “this is nothing extraordinary for a government that includes a mixture of the close interests of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) that are above the public interest”.

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Adem Salihaj in an interview for the news site argues that the opposition bloc is trying to get to power through popular protests. “There is one question that preoccupies us: are the violent protests and the blockade of institutions aimed at annulling these agreements [the agreement on Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro] or is there another hidden agenda behind this, such as the downfall of the government and early elections.

Citing unnamed international sources, the news site reports that the Constitutional Court will soon announce its ruling on the constitutionality of the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. “In a matter of days, the Constitutional Court could announce its ruling on the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. Maybe even next week,” the source said. The source also added that the court will announce the ruling before the eventual recommendation by the European Commission for visa liberalization for Kosovo.
