Haradinaj: Dissolution of parliament is the only solution (RTK)

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), walked out of the meeting of political leaders called by Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and attended by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Principal Deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. Haradinaj told reporters that he had requested the dissolution of the Parliament and new parliamentary elections. Haradinaj also said that another request of the opposition bloc is for the President of Kosovo to be elected directly by the people.

Kosovo and FYROM sign bilateral agreements (Koha)

The Foreign Ministers of Kosovo and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Hashim Thaci and Nikola Poposki respectively, signed two bilateral agreements in Pristina today, one that will enable the citizens of the two countries to cross the border with their ID cards only, and the other one on opening another crossing point. Kosovo FM Thaci hailed the agreements as very important for the people and the relations between the two countries.

The front page of the paper says that new elections in Kosovo are unavoidable because “all the other alternatives to overcome the political crisis, created since the establishment of an insatiable government of elephants, and later the signing of the anti-constitutional agreements, have been exhausted.”  Kosova Sot further notes that based on the Constitution, the power to dissolve the Assembly and announce the date for new elections belongs to the President.

Deda: Thaci does not have the support of the internationals to become president (RTKlive)

Kosovo Assembly MP from Vetevendosje Movement, Ilir Deda, said for RTV Dukagjni that this year will be the year of early elections.

He said he does not believe that the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaci, will be elected for the president. According to him, the new elections could take place by April.

Thaci: US supports Kosovo institutions and election of President (Koha)

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Hashim Thaci, said today that the ruling-coalition is in close consultation about his election as President of Kosovo, which according to him, will take place in February. “We will respect all constitutional procedure,” Thaci said. He said there had been no discussions related to changes in the government yet. He also spoke about his meeting with the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, saying that the United States support Kosovo institutions and the presidential election process.

Kosovo Assembly MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Vjosa Osmani, known as one of the criticizing voices against the PDK-LDK coalition, confirmed once again that she will object Hashim Thaqi’s candidacy for the President of Kosovo. “I am not aware of how the other deputies will act, but it is important for each of us to act according to our convictions and conscience, and in line with the will of the electorate,” Osmani said.

On the eve of elections of the new President of Kosovo the idea has surfaced that a Serb could put him or herself forward for the position. Although it is hard to believe that he or she could would be able to get two thirds of the votes in the Kosovo Parliament, it would allow for Serbian MPs to avoid the pressures of having to choose which Albanian candidate to support.
