Djuric on conditions for Serbs' participation in Kosovo govt (Tanjug)

BELGRADE - Director of Serbian government's Office for Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) Marko Djuric said that Serb representatives in the province are ready to participate in the new Kosovo government, but only under certain conditions.

The most important condition is the formation of the community of Serb municipalities in line with the agreement reached by Belgrade and Pristina on April 19, 2013 in Brussels, as well as improving the safety of the citizens, Djuric said in an interview to Belgrade-based weekly Novi Magazin.

Seeing that the Constitutional Court may suspend the election of Isa Mustafa as Speaker of the Assembly, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) led by Ramush Haradinaj seems to be turning to Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). No agreement was reached in today’s meeting between leaders of the Vetevendosje Movement, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA). Vetevendosje leader Albin Kurti said there have been setbacks from earlier agreements. “There is discordance from earlier positions of the Vetevendosje Movement and the LDK-AAK-NISMA coalition. These are mainly related to dialogue with Serbia, the process of privatization and other issues,” Kurti told reporters after the meeting.

Sources told Gazeta Express that Andreas Schockenhoff, a close associate of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, told LDK and AAK leaders, Isa Mustafa and Ramush Haradinaj, in a meeting in Pristina today that Kosovo needs to continue dialogue with Serbia and implement agreements reached in Brussels. The same sources said that Schockenhoff acknowledged the possibility of the opposition forming the new government. Leader of Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK) and opposition’s candidate for prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said in an interview for Klan Kosova that he regrets the opposition coalition was not reached before elections. “I tried but there simply wasn’t the necessary readiness”, he said.

“We had before us the option of either having Thaci fully or partially; either admitting defeat of providing a change for Kosovo”, said Haradinaj adding that the opposition decided to say no to a third mandate to Thaci government and therefore formed a majority in the Assembly.

The AAK issued a press release after the meeting saying that Haradinaj and Blomeyer discussed the 8 June national elections and the agreement between the AAK, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) for a coalition government.
