Blakaj: Flora Brovina should have resigned (Slobodno srpski, Radio kontakt plus)

Kosovo Humanitarian Law Centre (HLC) Director Bekim Blakaj said in “Slobodno srpski” broadcast that Flora Brovina, member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) should have resigned after publicly displaying a photo for which she claimed represents a raping of an Albanian woman by the Serbian army, which later turned out to be a hoax and the photo was in fact taken from a porn site in Iraq.

Brammertz: I think there is no progress in reconciliation, there is a risk to society; report on region mainly negative (N1)

The prosecutor of a UN war crimes tribunal told N1 on Wednesday that his report on the level of cooperation between the countries of the region and the tribunal is mainly negative.

Serge Brammertz, chief prosecutor at the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, is on a three-day visit to Belgrade during which he has had meetings with the Serbian justice minister, state prosecutor and chief war crimes prosecutor.

Pristina: ''Resolution on genocide'', a photo and media (KoSSev)

The Assembly of Kosovo adopted a resolution on ''genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes of the former regime of the Serbian state committed in Kosovo,'' yesterday.

The headlines of Kosovo media, however, were marked with a photo of a scene of an alleged group rape, which Kosovo MP Flora Brovina showed to the media in the assembly, emphasizing that it shows an Albanian woman being raped by Serb forces in the presence of members of her family.

A Serbian ruling party official and Chairman of the parliamentary Committee for Kosovo, Milovan Drecun says that the authorities in Pristina are trying to draw attention away from investigations against key figures of the war-time Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) by claiming that Serbia committed genocide.

Detention of Zlatan Krstic extended for two more months (Radio KIM, Radio kontakt plus)

Council for the war crimes of the Basic Court in Pristina has extended the detention of Zlatan Krstic from Kragujevac for two more months, Radio kontakt plus reported. He is suspected of allegedly committing the war crimes, his lawyer Dejan A. Vasic said.

Krstic is suspected of taking part in the events in the village of Nerodimlje, Urosevac municipality, during March 1999 when members of Nuha family were murdered. Their bodies were found in a mass grave in Urosevac.

Kosovo HLC: Establishment of international court for Serbian crimes in Kosovo not possible (TV N1, BETA, RTK2)

Director of the Kosovo Humanitarian Law Centre (HLC) Bekim Blakaj said today he understands the motives of the Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli wanting the justice two decades after the conflict, adding he considers that the establishment of the international court is not possible, BETA news agency reports.

“The International Court should be established by the United Nations and I seriously doubt that such an initiative from Kosovo would get the support of the UN,” Blakaj told RTK2.

Veseli: Serbia will be responsible for all victims (B92, RTK2)

Belgrade based portal B92 reports, quoting Radio Television of Kosovo in Serbian language (RTK2), that the president of the Kosovo Assembly, Kadri Veseli claimed that on Monday formally started formation of an international tribunal for crimes committed by Serbia in Kosovo.

The portal reports that Veseli at the same time threatened with arrest of "cowards that are now free in Serbia".

Lawyer Vlajic on Kosovo courts taking over cases from EULEX (BETA)

Lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic assessed the fact that Kosovo courts would over war crimes cases from EULEX “would be painful and difficult” for Serbs, BETA news agency reported.

He noted that from now on they would need to prove their innocence before the people incapable of making right decisions. “Only Basic Court in Pristina is in charge of the war crimes cases, and all judges there are Albanians. It would not be possible to have trials in Mitrovica North, where there are judges who are Serbs,” Vlajic explained.

Court in Pec acquitted returnee Milorad Zajic from Klina (Tanjug, Vecernje Novosti)

The Basic Court in Pec has acquitted the Klina returnee Milorad Zajic, who was accused of committing a war crime against the civilian population in the village of Dusevic during the conflict in Kosovo.

The court found prosecution did not substantiate the indictment and also revoked the measure of house arrest in which Zajic spent almost a year. Zajic’s lawyer Dejan Vasic told this to Tanjug. He also noted this is a first-degree decision, and the prosecution has the right to appeal.

 

Suspects in war crimes to be tried in absentia? (KIM radio, Kontakt plus radio)

Round table in organization of NGO Aktiv dealt with possible amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, which would enable war crimes trials for persons in absentia.
