Thaci considering pardoning Kiqina and Ramadani brothers convicted of murder (Kallxo)

Kallxo reports that President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, is expected to consider pardoning Arben Kiqina, Burim Ramadani and Arsim Ramadani, convicted of murdering five members of Hajra family in 2001. Thaci’s office is said to have asked Kosovo Correctional Service to verify information on certain prisoners including the three above mentioned men.  Head of the Correctional Service, Sokol Zogaj, confirmed sending a list of 10-15 inmates to the Office of the President, upon latter’s request.

Lumezi: Fight against corruption not going well (Kallxo)

Kosovo’s chief prosecutor, Aleksander Lumezi, said that he was not pleased with results in the fight against corruption. Speaking at the meeting of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Lumezi said measures need to be taken to improve the track record of corruption fight. “We do not have satisfactory results in the fight against corruption,” he said.

One more citizen from Kosovo killed in Syria (Kallxo, KoSSev portal)

One more citizen from Kosovo was killed in Syria, KoSSev portal reports today referring to the Pristina based Kallxo.com.

The person is from the village Palabarda, near Djakovica.

According to Kallxo.com members of his family are informed about his death last night.

However, the circumstances of this murder are not clear. It is not known when he went to Syria and if he was a member of some extremist organizations active there, KoSSev further reports.

Dozens of citizens from Kosovo were killed in Syria.

MPs claim border demarcation is being discussed at wrong parliamentary committee (Kallxo)

Members of the Kosovo Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee said it should be the forum where the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro is discussed and not the European Integration Committee. Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson, Vjosa Osmani, said the issue needs to be clarified as it could lead to procedural problems. Visar Ymeri, also part of the same committee, said it was strange why the border demarcation report was set to go through the European Integration Committee.

Report: Kosovo has high level of inactive women in labour market (Kallxo/Koha)

A recent report published by the Democracy for Development (D4D) think tank has found that Kosovo has the highest percentage of inactive women in the labour market compared to countries in the region. D4D director, Shpend Emini, said the report sheds light into reasons why 80 percent of women in Kosovo don’t seek employment. He said that there should be conditions in place to encourage women to apply for work.

Haradinaj: Kosovo to apply for EU candidate status in 2018 (Kallxo)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said today at a conference organised by the Balkans Policy research Group that the government's goal was to create conditions for Kosovo to apply for EU candidate status in 2018. Haradinaj also called on the EU to intensify bilateral relations with Kosovo and that there was no alternative to Kosovo's European perspective. Haradinaj however admitted there were challenges in implementation of Kosovo institutions' decisions. "We face many challenges in implementation of decisions.

Former University of Pristina rector convicted of fraud (Kallxo)

Enver Hasani, former rector of the University of Pristina (UP) and former head of Kosovo’s Constitutional Court, has been found guilty of fraud.  Hasani’s other two co-defendants, Albert Rakipi from a Tirana based company and Hakif Veliu, University of Pristina official, were also found guilty and ordered to pay a fine while Hasani was given a conditional one-year prison sentence. Furthermore, the three men have to compensate UP for a damage of €70,000.

Mikullovci waits confirmation from PAN before calling Assembly session (Kallxo)

Chairman of the Kosovo Assembly’s constitutive session, Adem Mikullovci, said he was waiting for an official confirmation from PAN that they have secured the necessary votes for electing speaker before announcing the date of the next session. “I cannot call a session simply based on media reports,” Mikullovci said.  “The moment they ask for a session, I will call one,” he added.

Konjufca: PAN trying to buy time (Kallxo/Telegrafi)

Vetevendosje’s Glauk Konjufca said in a press conference following the consultative meeting of heads of parliamentary groups which he did not attend that PAN coalition was only trying to buy time by asking for additional meetings and not attending Assembly’s constitutive session. “They are trying to buy time to close the deals they have started because they do not have the votes”, Konjufca said.  “Time of political meetings is gone.

Mustafa: Serbia’s damages in Kosovo estimated at over USD 20 billion (Kallxo)

Economy professor and former MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Muhamet Mustafa, said that damage Serbia has caused to Kosovo from 1990 to 1999 reaches a figure of over USD 20 billion. Mustafa, who led economy experts group at the Kosovo status talks in Vienna, said Kosovo agreed to pay off its external debt but only up until 1990 when its autonomy was revoked by Serbia.
