LAN: No new elections, solution must be found in the Assembly (Koha)

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and candidate of the opposition coalition for Prime Minister, said today that MPs need to find a solution to break the political deadlock. He said the coalition of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the AAK and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) does not want new elections. “This is not about new elections, this is about finding a solution in the Assembly,” Haradinaj said.

Robert Carolan no longer to serve as judge in Constitutional Court (Koha)

U.S. judge Robert Carolan will no longer serve as a judge with the Constitutional Court of Kosovo. Sources told Koha Ditore that Carolan turned down another mandate with the court. “His departure has to do with the fact that he was the only one not to agree with the two latest decisions of the Constitutional Court – the decision on the candidate for the forming of the government and the decision on the Assembly President,” the source said.

Coalition bloc calls postponement of assembly session unacceptable (Koha)

The meeting of the post-coalition bloc representatives called after the decision to postpone Kosovo Assembly constitutive session has ended.

The bloc’s candidate for prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said the postponement of Assembly’s session is unacceptable and that the decision of the chair, Flora Brovina, only served the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

Haradinaj said it is only the PDK that is blocking establishment of new institutions. He said there is no need for new elections as the solution to the crisis is already inside the Assembly.

Lumir Abdixhiku, director of the Pristina-based research institute Riinvest, argues in his opinion piece that “the unification of opposition parties in one camp gives meaning to good governance for Kosovo and to the Albanian majority”. The unification of the opposition also gives guarantees for the overall political will in the country. This unification of political parties not only channels all anti-government sentiments in the country but also increases the chance for a meaningful opposition alternative.

Vetevendosje: PDK and Belgrade intentionally delaying forming of institutions (Koha)

In a statement to the media, Vetevendosje stressed that in an effort to create parallel institutional mechanisms, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) undertook its recent step in preventing creation of new institutions. “Along with the Serb List it postponed for a week the constitutive session of the Republic of Kosovo Assembly”.

Mustafa requests clarification on how can a government establish without majority (Koha online)

Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), said that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and the Constitutional Court should bring arguments to the opinion on how is the government and the Assembly Speaker or the deputies elected in a parliamentary system without a parliamentary majority.

Coalition Block – Vetevendosje agreement, signed (koha online)
