Thaci’s election becomes complicated: Serbs with five demands (RTK)

Hashim Thaci’s election has gotten quite complicated. The Serbian List is asking for five demands to be met, otherwise they will leave the Assembly session, making it impossible for Thaci to be elected president. Gazeta Express has learned that the demands of the Serbian List are related to the agreements reached in Brussels during the discussions between Pristina and Belgrade. It is not known whether these demands can be technically fulfilled today.

Haliti: No reason for confrontation (RTKlive)

Deputy President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Xhavit Haliti, from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said that there is no reason for confrontation between the government and the opposition. He said that there is no reason for PDK supporters to be confrontational. “I am not aware of any call to for confrontation,” Haliti said after his meeting with the Head of the Committee for Foreign Trade and Customs of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Semsudin Mehmedovic.

O’Connell: The Situation is very dangerous (Express/RTK)

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Kosovo, Ruairi O’Connell, replied on his Facebook page to the questions of Kosovo people. Asked about corruption in Kosovo, O'Connell said that he has no evidence about the corruption in Kosovo, however, according to him, if the citizens do have evidence, then they should report it.

Mustafa: Kosovo committed to its European agenda (RTK)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, during his visit in the United Kingdom held a lecture at Oxford University where he spoke about Kosovo’s difficult path towards freedom and the current processes related to economic development and European integration.  "The Government of Kosovo is committed to being a worthy partner of the EU for the implementation of all agreements, including the SAA. We are now at the final stage of obtaining  the recommendation for visa liberalization,” Mustafa said.

Amidst tear gas, Assembly approves resolution (RTK)

Kosovo Assembly approved a resolution condemning the recent decision by a Serbian court sentencing, in absentia, eight former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) members to sixteen years for an attack on Yugoslav Army troops in 1998. Two of the convicted persons, Anton Cuni and Rrustem Berisha, are Kosovo MPs. The voting took place under a cloud of tear gas released by the opposition MPs as the Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli began to read the resolution text.

Government allocates additional 420 thousand euros for Ombudsperson (RTK)

The government of Kosovo has allocated additional 420 thousand euros for the institution of the Ombudsperson in Kosovo. During the government meeting today, European Integration Minister Bekim Collaku said the allocation of these funds was one of the remaining eight criteria for the visa liberalization. According to him, the government has almost met all the criteria for visa liberalization.

President could be elected on Monday (RTK)

Final preparations for the next Kosovo Assembly session are underway and, according to sources from the government, the session could take place as early as next Monday. Foreign Minister and candidate for the next president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, is expected to meet with the US Secretary of State John Kerry in Tirana on Sunday and the most suitable date for the session is Monday as the following days will be busy with events organised to mark the eighth anniversary of Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

Austrian FM to visit Kosovo tomorrow (RTK)

Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz is expected to visit Kosovo and meet institutional leaders tomorrow. Kurz is currently on a tour of Balkan countries and is visiting Albania today. Yesterday, he was in Belgrade and met Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic. Kurz called on leaders in Serbia to intensify dialogue for normalization of relations with Kosovo as a precondition for EU membership.

Veseli: Institutional dialogue, the only way forward (RTK)

Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli hailed the meeting today between President Atifete Jahjaga and political leaders as a positive step stressing that dialogue is the only way for overcoming the current situation. Veseli commended Jahjaga on her initiative to gather the leaders and encouraged her to continue facilitating the dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties. “Institutional dialogue is the only way our country can move forward,” he said.
