KFOR Commander met the US Ambassador Delawie and UNMIK Chief Farid Zarif (KIM radio)

KFOR Commander, Major General Miglietta met the new United States Ambassador in Kosovo, Greg Delawie.

General Miglietta and Ambassador Delawie discussed the overall situation in Kosovo focusing, mainly, on next month challenges like the implementation of the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue, the future of EULEX and the implementation of the Community/Association of Serbian Municipalities.

President Jahjaga, farewell meeting with Farid Zarif (RTKLive)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, received today in a farewell meeting the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Kosovo, Farid Zarif. President Jahjaga praised Zarif's work as head of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and his commitment during the mandate in Kosovo and congratulated him on his new assignment. Jahjaga said that Kosovo is consolidating internationally and stressed the importance of the support for membership in international organizations, in particular in the UN.

Kosovo Mufti Ternava meets head of UNMIK Zarif (RTK)

Kosovo Mufti Naim Ternava received in a farewell meeting the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Farid Zarif. Ternava thanked Zarif for his work, contribution and engagement in Kosovo and wished him success in his new mission. Ternava also praised the work and the contribution of the United Nations for Kosovo. Zarif, on his part, thanked Ternava for the cooperation during his mission in Kosovo and also noted the progress Kosovo has made in this period.

The new head of UNMIK (Danas)

Afghanistan now joined Denmark, which for 16 years of a UN protectorate in Kosovo had two heads of UNMIK. By the decision of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the outgoing UNMIK chief Farid Zarif will be replaced by his compatriot Zahir Tanin, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the world organization. The ninth head of the UN Mission in Kosovo should take office on August 31.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic received outgoing UNMIK Chief Farid Zarif on Tuesday, and on that occasion thanked him for the objective and professional work during his term of office.

As the Serbian government's media relations office said in a release, the Serbian prime minister said that the UNMIK's presence and operations are important for Serbia, as a guarantor of the status neutrality of the international presence and the crucial factor of stability in Kosovo.

The key interests of Serbia are stability in Kosovo and normalization of the Belgrade-Pristina relations, as well as improvement of the Serb community's position in Kosovo, Director of the Serbian government's Office for KiM Marko Djuric said Monday during a meeting with the head of UNMIK Farid Zarif.

Zarif, who is on a farewell visit, commended the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina for focusing on improving economic situation in Kosovo, promoting human rights and fighting corruption.

Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo Farid Zarif met today in Belgrade director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Marko Djuric. The two officials are reported to have discussed the situation in Kosovo, developments in the north, Pristina-Belgrade dialogue and Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO. Djuric said that Serbia’s vital interests rest on Kosovo’s stability, normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, and improvement of the Serb community’s position in Kosovo. Djuric also expressed the position of Belgrade authorities against Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO.

Zarif appointed UN Special Representative for Liberia (Klan Kosova)

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Farid Zarif, of Afghanistan, as his Special Representative for Liberia and head of the United Nations Mission there, known as UNMIL, Klan Kosova reports. Currently the Special Representative and head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Mr. Zarif has extensive experience in diplomatic, international and United Nations affairs, having served in various positions inside and outside Afghanistan.

UN envoy urges Kosovo to establish war crimes court (AP)

The U.N. envoy for Kosovo urged the government on Tuesday to move swiftly to establish a court to investigate crimes committed by ethnic Albanian rebels during the country's 1998-99 war of independence from Serbia.

Farid Zarif told the U.N. Security Council that he underlined the expectations of the international community and possible victims of crimes "that there be no delays in the steps required from Kosovo toward the establishment of the court."
