UN official learns about planned Kosovo settlement for IDPs (B92)

The concept of the Sunny Valley returnee settlement in Kosovo has been presented a UN special rapporteur.

Chaloka Beyani, in charge of human rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) learned about the project from Dusan Kozarev, deputy director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo.

Kozarev also told his about "the obstacles to a greater sustainable return of IDPs," Tanjug reported on Monday.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday expressed deep concern about the ongoing wave of arrests in Turkey since the attempted coup.

Ban told Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during a telephone conversation that "credible evidence" must be presented swiftly so that the detainees' legal status can be determined by a court of law.

United Nations agencies, funds and programmes are using a new communications strategy to the detriment of Kosovo. They are proclaiming the non-recognition of [Kosovo’s] statehood everywhere.

This is being done by including an asterisk to the names of UN offices and mechanisms in Kosovo. They are also adding the footnote which is not unique in its content. The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 is included in every content.

Djuric: Serbia can join EU only as integral country (Tanjug)

Serbia's position on Kosovo-Metohija's membership in international organisations is unchanged, the head of the government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric said Tuesday, reiterating that only an integral Serbia can be an EU member state.

Commenting on reports by some Serbian media that Germany will not ratify the agreement on Serbia's EU accession until Kosovo becomes a full UN member, Djuric said:

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Wednesday received UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations El Ghassim Wane.

During the conversation he noted that Serbia is fully committed to regional peace and stability and that it is cooperating with all despite a rise in ultra-nationalism in some countries.

Nikolic highlighted the significance of UN peacekeepers and their role in preserving peace and stability worldwide, in the region in particular.

The meeting will be attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin and representative of the UN Secretary General and the Director of the UN Office in Belgrade Simona - Mirela Miculesku, announced the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
