Imer Mushkolaj writes in his editorial that bringing down Hashim Thaci is not the only reason that unites the coalition block. According to him, there are many hidden reasons that keep these parties together just as there are many hidden reasons why Hashim Thaci insists to remain the Prime Minister of Kosovo. These reasons put all of them in front of a “dead or alive” situation.

Representatives of the coalition consisting of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and the Vetevendosje Movement are hinting at the possible replacement of Flora Brovina as chairperson of the Kosovo Assembly. Coalition officials argue that Brovina, a member of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), is supporting her party in the Assembly. AAK MP Donika Kadaj-Bujupi said a solution for the blockade will be found.

Coalition between the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and Vetevendosje will wait until Monday for the chairperson of the Assembly’s constitutive session, Flora Brovina, to call for the next session and give it the right to propose a candidate for speaker.

A source within the bloc said that if Brovina fails to do so, the post-election coalition will undertake necessary measures to constitute the new Assembly.

The coalition of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative of Kosovo (NISMA) and the Vetevendosje Movement issued a joint statement after today’s session of the Kosovo Assembly. “The coalition of the LDK-AAK-NISMA and Vetevendosje Movement, after today’s constitutive session, takes note of the PDK’s failure to elect the Assembly President and to establish the Assembly. Even 100 days after general elections proved to be not enough for the PDK to secure a majority in the Assembly.

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and candidate of the opposition coalition for Prime Minister, said today that MPs need to find a solution to break the political deadlock. He said the coalition of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the AAK and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) does not want new elections. “This is not about new elections, this is about finding a solution in the Assembly,” Haradinaj said.

Andrea Capussela who worked for the former International Civilian Office in Kosovo observes in an opinion piece for the paper that although he has not too much respect for the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK) or Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), he does believe that Kosovo could use a change and if Vetevendosje joins in, institutions would become cleaner. Capussela’s message therefore to LDK, AAK and NISMA is to remove the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) from power and take it themselves.

Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), said today that the opposition bloc does not intend to dismiss Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga. “The Democratic League of Kosovo and partners of the coalition respect the mandate of the President. Evidence of this is the agreement between the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Initiative for Kosovo, and the confirmation of cooperation with the Vetevendosje Movement.

As announced earlier, the Coalition Block signed today at 13:00 hours at the Assembly of Kosovo, an agreement for co-governance with Vetevendosje Movement.

The agreement was signed after two months of negotiations between the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), with the Vetevendosje Movement.

The chairperson of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, Flora Brovina, decided during her meeting with the representatives of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and minority parties, to hold the constitutive session of the Assembly, on 12 September, at 10:00 a.m.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo was represented by Enver Hoxhaj, while the opposition coalition and Vetevendosje did not participate, despite Brovina’s invitation.

After the negative response of the representatives of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), who stated that they would not attend the meeting scheduled by Flora Brovina, the later stated that if the parties of the opposition coalition do not attend the meeting, she will not call the Assembly session.
