Thaci can still avoid elections, say interlocutors of Danas from Kosovo (Danas)

It is still uncertain whether the Pristina parliament will be dissolved on August 22, which would allow early elections to be called, claim Danas's interlocutors from Kosovo.

Some sources of daily Danas unofficially state that it should be seen whether two-thirds of MPs will vote to dissolve the parliament, and that Kosovo's President Hashim Thaci still can avoid going to the polls.

Srpska Lista MPs have been in the Kosovo Assembly since yesterday waiting for the arrival of European Commissioner Johannes Hahn in order to inform him about Pristina’s „anti-Serb moves“ that are leading toward „a humanitarian catastrophe“ of the Serbian people in Kosovo.

They are protesting against the 100% custom taxes imposed on Serbian products arriving into Kosovo. Hahn does not have an officially scheduled meeting with them.

Albanian MPs, members of the relevant parliamentary committee that discussed the Kosovo Holidays Act, voted unanimously against the demands of the Serbian List to include the June 28th (Serbian Orthodox holiday Vidovdan (St. Vitus) in the act, reports Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

The RTS quotes Pristina daily Koha Ditore that the Serbian List requested to include the 28th June in the Law on holidays, but the first to oppose this request was MP Milaim Zeka, considering the request as an insult to the Albanians.

Newly elected Kosovo Parliament Vice President Slavko Simić says that he is honoured and pleased that he was nominated and elected deputy chairman of the parliament.

"For me, a great responsibility and obligation, to make efforts, in the coming period through the Presidency and the Parliament, to protect Serbian national interests and improve the position of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija through organized political activity with the parliamentary club of the Serbian List,'' wrote Simić on Facebook.

The Serbian List MP Igor Simić told TV Most today that the Serbian List will support the formation of parliamentary bodies. And with regard to further political moves and possible forming of the Government, the decision will be made after consultations with President Vučić and Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić.

 

Petrović: SLS ready for the position of deputy Assembly speaker (RTK2)

Slobodan Petrović, the Independent Liberal Party (SLS) leader, said today that the party expressed readiness for the position of deputy chairman of the Assembly of Kosovo.

There is no ambiguity regarding the possibility, the Kosovo Constitution allows the Serbian community to have a guaranteed vice-speaker position - said Petrović, who is also the only deputy of the SLS in parliament.
