Kosovo applies for membership to Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie (Klan Kosova/EO)

Kosovo Assembly has applied to become full member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie, having been an observer since 2014. Kosovo Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli, announced the decision after meeting the General Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie, Jacques Krabal. Veseli said the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophonie is one of the largest international organisations and expressed belief Kosovo will soon gain status of full-fledged member. “This is extraordinary news.

Government of Kosovo takes measures to ensure women’s right to property (EO)

The government of Kosovo has approved an administrative instruction on taking special measures to enable couples to register property under shared ownership. Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said the instruction will encourage people to share ownership of their property and make more women co-owners.

Minister: Trepca mine board up and running by April (EO)

Kosovo’s Minister of Economic Development, Valdrin Lluka, told Ekonomia Online news website that the board of the Trepca mining complex is expected to be up and running by April. He said the final interviews with candidates will take place on 25 March and that the selection process afterwards will not take more than a week. “We are extremely interesting in finalizing this board,” Lluka said. “There is a huge interest from foreign investors to invest in Trepca, therefore every day is a waste of time,” he added.

British Embassy does not comment Mustafa's statement, requests fighting of corruption (E.O.)

The outgoing Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, took to Facebook to write that “it became obvious that even internationals, who continuously speak about the war against crime and corruption, are in fact more interested for stability, be it even managed by crime, than for a governance that would fight crime in an independent manner.” The Embassy of  Great Britain to Kosovo, did not want to comment Mustafa’s statement, but the Embassy’s Office for Information, stressed in an e-mail response  that the only thing that matters to them is war against corruption.

EU reaffirms: Kosovo has to meet two more visa liberalisation criteria (EO)

Ekonomia Online news website quoted European Commission spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, as reiterating that Kosovo needs to implement two more conditions before being granted visa liberalisation: continue fight against high-level corruption and organised crime and conclude border demarcation with Montenegro. Kocijancic recalled that in a February meeting with President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker urged for continuation of fight against organised crime and corruption.

Selimi: Vetevendosje will respect Constitution for Assembly speaker’s post (EO)

In an interview to Ekonomia Online, Vetevendosje’s Rexhep Selimi said they continue to have red lines towards possible cooperation with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Serbian List but not with regards to other political entities. However, Selimi said that constitutionally, the post of Assembly speaker belongs to the PAN coalition led by the PDK. “We will respect the Constitution giving priority to the leading entity to have the speaker’s post”, Selimi said.

Veseli: New government in July, we will discuss coalitions with parties not individuals (EO)

In an interview to Ekonomia Online, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Kadri Veseli, said the winning coalition has a constitutional right to form the new government and that a possible deadlock serves no one's interests in Kosovo. “Once results are certified, very soon, in the first half of July, we expect to have new institutions in place”, Veseli said.

Officials from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) reacted to the news that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) signed a pre-election coalition with the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) by saying the move was foreseeable. LDK spokesperson Arban Abrashi said to Klan Kosova that PDK signed the coalition as a reaction to the “fear” from the LDK earlier reaching an agreement with the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) and Alternative.

Demolli: Thaci acted in line with his competencies (Ekonomia Online)

Kosovo Security Force (KSF) Minister, Haki Demolli, said President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci acted within the scope of his competencies when he initiated the transformation of the KSF but clarified that his ministry had prepared two years ago the proposal for constitutional amendments that would serve as legal basis for the creation of a Kosovo armed force.
