LDK: Opposition should give up blocking of Assembly (Telegrafi)

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has expressed deep concern over the events that happened at the Assembly of Kosovo today. In a statement, the second-largest party said “such violence undermines the vital interests of the people and the state of Kosovo.” The opposition should therefore give up attempts to forcefully block the Assembly. “LDK supports the majority MPs who in a calm and dignified manner faced the violence against them,” reads the statement.

Limaj: Association will not pass (Telegrafi)

Leader of Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) Fatmir Limaj dismissed statement from the Kosovo-based Council for Defence of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) that what happened today at the Assembly was an act of violence. Limaj said violence is what is happening to Kosovo. “We grew up with teargas and we don’t want our children to grow up like this. The future of our children is being ruined by this agreement,” said Limaj. He reiterated that the opposition stands united in opposing the creation of the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities.

Mustafa: Visa liberalization criteria will be met by November 30 (Telegrafi)

Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today that Kosovo’s institutions will fulfil the remaining eight conditions for visa liberalization by November 30. In his address at the government meeting in Pristina today, Mustafa said the European Union has no reason not to set a date for visa liberalization for Kosovo. He also briefed his ministers on the visit of the Kosovo delegation to New York and meetings with several world leaders there.

160,000 signatures against Association of Serb-majority municipalities (Telegrafi)

The Vetevendosje Movement announced on Monday that  it has so far collected over 160,000 signatures against the formation of the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro. According to Vetevendosje, citizens from all political parties, including those who voted for the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), are signing the petition. Vetevendosje also said the petition would continue until 200,000 signatures are collected and then they will organize protests.

Kuci and Jetvic discuss usurped properties (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Minister for Communities and Returns, Dalibor Jevtic, met today with the Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuqi. The meeting of the two ministers was initiated by the Minister Jevtic, to seek support for the implementation of one of the findings of the regional initiative on the usurped properties. "Our goal is to see what can be improved in solving the problem of usurped property. It is not a matter only of Serbs but of all Kosovo citizens, and we have to solve it in the most efficient way possible,” Jevtic said.

Haliti: No one knows who will be indicted by special court (Telegrafi)

The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Xhavit Haliti, during a TV show today said that no one knows precisely who will be indicted by the special court. He said that it is important that Kosovo has accepted the establishment of this court. According to him, names that were mentioned in the media who might be indicted by this court are pure speculation. He also said that the allegations about organ trafficking during the war in Kosovo are not true.

 Jahjaga posthumously honours first UN administrator in Kosovo (Telegrafi)

President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga has presented a posthumous honour to the son of the late Sergio Vieira de Mello, the first UN administrator in Kosovo. “I thanked the family for the contribution of Mr. de Mello after the war in Kosoov and his help in overcoming the emergency stage and the laying of foundations for peace and democracy,” wrote Jahjaga on her Facebook account.

Jahjaga: There is no peace until sexual violence survivors have peace as well (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s President Atifete Jahjaga during a lecture at the University of Columbia, said that the survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo continue to face many challenges even after 16 years.  “Local and international prosecutors have failed to deliver justice for the for survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo,” Jahjaga said, adding that the international community which administered Kosovo after the war never dealt with a case of sexual crime.

Lushtaku to be transferred to high-security prison in Gerdofc (Telegrafi)

Basic Court in Mitrovica has decided to transfer former KLA commander Sami Lushtaku to the high-security prison in Gerdofc, Podujeva, said EULEX spokesperson Besa Domi. The decision was taken after a hearing session that ended just before midnight. Lushtaku is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for war crimes. Yesterday, he disappeared from the Prishtina hospital after being taken there for treatment. He was arrested shortly after by EULEX.

Selimi: SAA for Kosovo will be signed in October (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Petrit Selimi, said in an interview for TV Dukagjini, that according to information of the Kosovar diplomacy, the Stabilization/Association Agreement (SAA) between the European Union and Kosovo will be signed in October. Selimi said he is fully confident that this year Kosovo will be an official candidate for membership in the Council of Europe. Selimi added that this year Kosovo was recognized by three countries. “These are sovereign states. The Kosovar diplomacy has had diverse priorities.
