Citizens' Initiative SDP announced today that the latest attack on the former building of Kosovska Mitrovica municipality represents another in a series of provocative acts against Serbs in Kosovo.

The EU says an independent legal expert will investigate alleged corruption in the EU's rule of law mission in Kosovo.

The mission, called Eulex, is mired in allegations that some of its officials took bribes in return for dropping three cases involving organised crime.

A British prosecutor at Eulex, Maria Bamieh, was suspended after some secret Eulex documents were leaked.

EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini will appoint an independent legal expert to probe Eulex.

The EU is struggling to contain its worst foreign policy crisis in recent years after a whistleblower claimed that evidence of corruption in its biggest foreign mission – which is intended to strengthen the rule of law in Kosovo – was covered up.

“Allegations on corruption of EULEX officials should be taken very seriously. It is necessary that independent investigators check such allegations, bearing in mind compliance with procedures and the presumption of innocence. However, I fear that the accusations already undermined the credibility of the mission, which was initiated in order to introduce the rule of law in Kosovo,” told Eduard Kukan, head of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Serbia.

Suspended prosecutor of the EU rule of law mission in Kosovo, EULEX, Maria Bamieh says she is under investigation "instead of EULEX".

The official also claims that leaders of this mission "associate" with mobsters and politicians in Kosovo.

Bamieh says she is under investigation "instead of EULEX, having tried to correct the errors in this mission withing the EULEX institutions."

"I publicly spoke only when I exhausted all options," she told the Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz.

EULEX’s failures, a tragedy for Kosovo (Koha Ditore)

Brussels based correspondent of this daily considers that it would have been good if the EU should learn a lesson from the recent scandals with EULEX. This would have been a benefit for the future of the European Union and its operations outside of its territory as much as for Kosovo. The EU should act as it usually sermonizes and prove zero tolerance against corruption, if required within EU, as it requests from Balkans countries.
