The front page of the paper says that new elections in Kosovo are unavoidable because “all the other alternatives to overcome the political crisis, created since the establishment of an insatiable government of elephants, and later the signing of the anti-constitutional agreements, have been exhausted.”  Kosova Sot further notes that based on the Constitution, the power to dissolve the Assembly and announce the date for new elections belongs to the President.

Today Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, criticized the actions and violence exercised during protests by opposition parties. Thaci also spoke about the presidential elections, and promised that the elections will begin, in line with the Constitution.

KTV editor-in-chief Adriatik Kelmendi argues in an opinion piece that “Kosovo today is hostage of a mysterious agreement between two friends, [PDK leader] Hashim Thaci and [PDK deputy leader] Kadri Veseli, “who are willing to risk many things, including the position of the PDK, to fulfill each other’s ambitions. The question is why?” Kelmendi writes that if Thaci is elected President, it is almost certain that Veseli will be elected leader of the PDK but, according to Kelmendi, Veseli won’t be able to fill the gap that Thaci will leave behind.

Citing unnamed sources within the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Gazeta Tribuna reports that PDK parliamentary group during its meeting today proposed that PDK MP Rafet Rama should be Hashim Thaci’s rival for Kosovo president.  The parliamentary group also discussed about the quorum needed for the election of the president, and issued a decision that all PDK MPs are required to be in the session the voting day, regardless of the situation created there.

Assembly of Kosovo has prolonged its winter holiday more than usual, after a season when tear gas by the opposition parties was thrown almost at every session.

Assembly Presidency gathered last week however they did not set the date for the next session. They said the date will be set at the next meeting of the Presidency which is to commence on 6 or 7 February.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) parliamentary group chief, Adem Grabovci, today denied the rumors that Assembly President Kadri Veseli was nominated to be PDK’s leader after Hashim Thaci’s candidacy for Kosovo President. "We are currently analyzing the situation. It is true that we have had meetings but is absolutely not true what media reported on Veseli’s nomination,” Grabovci said.

Halil Matoshi writes today that quarrels and aggressive discourse against the opposition cannot overcome the situation “of the small and clashed country” as referred to Kosovo in the western media. He considers that the solution stands in an offer for a political, unconditioned discussion, which would not exclude early elections.

The General Council of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), held its end of the year meeting. The leader of this party, Hashim Thaci, said that this party will continue to be the most consolidated one in Kosovo. Thaci who holds the position of the Principal Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that 2015 was the year of challenges to strengthen the state. “This progress is directly related to the contribution of PDK,” Thaci said.

The paper’s front-page editorial argues that different ministers of the Kosovo government make different statements on the same day and “this is nothing extraordinary for a government that includes a mixture of the close interests of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) that are above the public interest”.

Kosovo-based think tank FOL presented today results of a recent poll on the political preferences of the citizens of Kosovo asking them how they would vote in case of fresh elections. According to the results, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) would come first with 29 percent of the votes, followed by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with 26 percent and Vetevendosje with 14 percent. The poll was carried out in all Kosovo cities and includes respondents from all communities.
