Vetevendosje Movement has called for an urgent session of the Kosovo Assembly to discuss the recent result of the survey of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) which ranked the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students in Kosovo on the 68th place out of a total of 70 countries assessed. Vetevendosje MP Mytaher Haskuka said PISA results show Kosovo students lag behind those in other countries by four years.

Civil society representatives today submitted a petition to the Kosovo Assembly, calling for an extraordinary session of Assembly to discuss the death of Vetevendosje activist Astrit Dehari in Prizren’s detention center. The petition which includes around 25 thousand signatures of Kosovo citizens, urges to shed light on Dehari’s death, and calls for the resignation of the Justice Minister, Dhurata Hoxha.

Kosovo Assembly MP from the Serbian List, said during an extensive interview for lajmi.net that his party does not have a stance on creation of the army of Kosovo. He considers that this issue is not a priority. “We are far from any kind of discussions and there are absolutely minor chances to have discussions regarding the army in the future.

The Budget and Finance Committee submitted to the Kosovo Assembly today the draft law on budget for 2017. Five members of the Committee voted in favor of this bill, while three were against. The budget for the next year is expected to be around 2 billion euros. Indeksonline reports that the bill will be discussed at the Kosovo Assembly during next week, while the ruling coalition representatives called on the opposition parties to cooperate on this issue.

 The opposition MPs did not mage to include debate on death of Vetëvendosje movement activist, Astrit Dehari in the agenda of the Kosovo Assembly session.  Two major parties of the coalition government, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), were against the debate.

Vetëvendosje movement MPs together with those from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), left the session.

Vetëvendosje movement MPs blocked today for a few minutes the Assembly pulpit, holding a banner with inscription “Justice”, requesting in this manner justice for Astrit Dehari, who died at Prizren prison.

Vetëvednosje movement leader, Visar Ymeri, held a speech expressing dissatisfaction regarding the delays on shedding light on the case of Dehari’s death. He said that Astrit Dehari’s death is responsibility of the institutions of the government of Kosovo.

Vetevendosje Movement collected signatures from MPs for a special session of the Assembly to discuss the death of its activist, Astrit Dehari, at the Prizren detention facility. However, the request failed as, according to Vetevendosje, one of the MPs was pressured into removing his signature. In sign of protest, Vetevendosje and the other opposition parties, walked out of the meeting of the Assembly Presidency which was supposed to decide the timing of the next session.

British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, in an address to the Kosovo Assembly MPs said that Kosovo has made significant progress since 1999 but that it needs to continue improving and working for the benefit of its people. He said the people of Kosovo have the right to seek accountability from their elected representatives and added that appointment of people to different posts based on merit is essential for the development of a country.

The draft-resolution prepared by heads of the parliamentary groups of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), has passed by 61 votes for with none against and 11 abstentions.

The resolution says that the Assembly of Kosovo pledges to endorse the Law on protection of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its liberating war, within six months.

The Office of the European Union in Pristina has requested from the Kosovo Assembly MPs to restrain from calls which put into question the decisions of the courts.
