Djuric: UNMIK and EULEX to engage (Blic, B92)

Head of Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric asked the UNMIK Chief Farid Zarif and EULEX Chief Gabriel Meucci to engage on Ivanovic's case.

Djuric in an official letter addressed to EULEX and UNMIK requested to enable bail for the leader of the Citizens' Initiative SDP, Oliver Ivanovic and Dragoljub Delibasic. Also, Djuric states that it would prevent human right violations and damage of Ivanovic's health.

Kosovo didn’t submit request for UNESCO membership (Vecernje Novosti)

The official request of Kosovo for the UNESCO membership still didn’t arrive in this organization was stated from the Public Relation Service of this UN organization.

Though Thaci wrote on 16 July on his Facebook profile that Pristina applied for membership, the first step towards the formal membership still has not been submitted. So far, Thaci refused to answer to the question whether the request was signed by the President Jahjaga or it was submitted by UNMIK.

Hiding details about candidacy for UNESCO (Danas)

The Presidency of Kosovo did not respond to the question sent by the journalist of this newspaper on whether the request for the membership in UNESCO was signed by President Jahjaga.

Kosovo FM Thaci also avoided answering to this question, raised by some MPs, at yesterday’s session in the Kosovo Parliament. Thaci briefly told MPs that the candidacy was "made in accordance with the laws and the Constitution of Kosovo." He also avoided saying whether the application for the UNESCO was submitted by UNMIK.

If it turns out that UNMIK on behalf of Kosovo applied for membership in UNESCO, it opens up a new political game, where the UN organization in a direct way interfered with the relationship between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo, positioning itself on the side of Kosovo Albanians.

UNMIK donates second part of donation to Pristina Hospital (Lajmi)

The news site reports that members of the Medical Clinic of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) donated the second part of a donation to the Pristina Hospital on Thursday. The donation was accepted by a committee appointed by the Pristina Hospital general director. The medical equipment will be used for the needs of patients treated at Pristina Hospital and in other units of Kosovo’s University Clinical Service.

Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) Bilall Sherifi in an opinion piece published in Zeri and several online media writes that since the end of the conflict in Kosovo, prosecution of war crimes was an exclusive competency of international missions in Kosovo. Initially, it was UNMIK that investigated and tried war crimes until 2008 when this responsibility was handed over to EULEX.

The UN considering establishment of special court (Klan Kosova)

The members of the Kosovo Assembly have reportedly seen a draft on the special court prepared by Russia which the member states of the United Nations Security Council will vote on if Kosovo’s authorities fail to establish the special court. According to the news site, the Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly has discussed the draft and the financial cost of the UN establishing the special court. A source that has reportedly seen the draft told Klan Kosova that the term genocide is mentioned in several chapters of the document.

Hyseni lobbying in New York for Kosovo’s membership of Interpol (Express)

Kosovo’s Minister for Interior Affairs, Skender Hyseni, is on a three-day visit to New York to meet the United Nations law enforcement representatives as well as permanent representative of different countries to the UN. Hyseni met Stefan Feller, the United Nations Police Advisor in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and briefed him on the content of Kosovo’s application for membership of Interpol. Hyseni highlighted strong arguments why Kosovo should join Interpol and called on UN agencies to support Kosovo’s bid.
