The Council for National Security met on on Monday in the Presidency of Serbia in Belgrade.
Serbia is a stable country and there is no possibility of a significant threat to peace and security of the state, a statement issued by the Presidential Press Service said after the meeting.
Prime Minister of Serbia Alekasandar Vučić said today that Belgrade is ready to continue dialogue with Pristina; he also said that some in the world do not take sufficiently serious the commitment of Pristina to reject the dialogue.
President Tomislav Nikolic will call for Monday, March 13, a session of the Council for National Security.
"The meeting will come following the demand by the 'Kosovo' assembly to stop the Brussels dialogue," the presidential office announced in a statement late on Thursday.
European Parliament Vice President, Ulrike Lunacek, reacted to the resolution of the Kosovo Assembly calling for suspension of dialogue with Belgrade by saying both parties need to resume talks. “Belgrade and Pristina must get back to the negotiating table and continue dialogue process. Serbia needs to withdraw its outdated international arrest warrant against Ramush Haradinaj,” Lunacek tweeted.
Head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Pal Lekaj, proposed today again during the Assembly session a resolution related to Ramush Haradinaj’s case. He said that discussions with Serbia should suspend until Haradinaj’s release.
The coalition government parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) were pro resolution for Haradinaj, however they said that the text of the resolution should be harmonized.
Mitrovica South Mayor Agim Bahtiri told BIRN that due partly to increased political tensions in the northern part of Kosovo, the reopening of the bridge that links the Albanian and the Serb-inhabited parts of the divided city of Mitrovica has been postponed to May. “Problems that arose from the construction of the wall have resulted in the delay. We expect the bridge to be opened in the first ten days of May,” Bahtiri said. Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, said the process of reopening the bridge for pedestrians and vehicles is in its final phase.
Authorities in Kosovo consider that there are great chances that the Presidential elections in Serbia this spring would affect not only Kosovo Serbs but also the process of the political dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Officials of the government of Kosovo claim that election campaigns and incentive statements in Serbia “always affected Kosovo.”
Kosovo’s Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, said at the meeting of the Assembly’s commission for legislation that recent tensions in the north have prevented implementation of justice agreement that was supposed to begin on 10 January. Tahiri said all preparation for the agreement’s implementation are in place and that integration of Serb judges and prosecutors in
President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said today at the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia in Merdare that Kosovo is strengthening its international standing through taking part in the dialogue with Serbia and that the process will end in mutual recognition. “The laying of this foundation is another testimony that we have pursued the road of dialogue, we pursued the road of building new bridges of cooperation. Kosovo has always respected freedom and movement and this is why we signed the agreement in Brussels,” Thaci said.
Head of the Vetevendosje Parliamentary Group, Aida Derguti, reacted to the publication of her letter addressed to the ITU, by the Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri. During the today’s Assembly session, she accused Minister Tahiri for deceiving the Kosovo population. “With the publication of the letter, Edita Tahiri tried to lie the public, as she has learned to do about the dialogue,” Derguti said.
