Leaders of the opposition parties ended their meeting with the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, where they reiterated their positions that they would not set back or sit around the same table with the government, if the latter does not withdraw signatures from the agreements for the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities and demarcation of the border with Montenegro.
The Assembly chairmanship gathered today to discuss the modalities of the Thursday’s session. The meeting was held without the presence of the heads of the parliamentary groups of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Vetevendosje movement and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA).
Except for blocking of the work of the Assembly of Kosovo, opposition parties claim that they will also obstruct work of the Parliamentary Commissions. The five Assembly Commissions planned to adjourn today at 10:00 hours to endorse the draft laws proposed by the government, will be boycotted by the three position parties, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and Vetevendosje Movement.
The opposition bloc, consisting of the Vetevendosje Movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), issued a joint statement on today’s events at the Kosovo Assembly.
“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo is ruining and bankrupting the state, by formalizing and legalizing Serbia’s power within the territory and institutions of Kosovo. This will destroy the Republic, the sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the wellbeing of the people. No one has the mandate or right to return Serbia to Kosovo. We will not allow this to happen.
Instead of an editorial, Gazeta Express carries the speech of its editor in chief, Berat Buzhal, during a gathering of the media representatives and those of the civil society, invited by Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli, to discuss the blockade of the Assembly of Kosovo.
Editor in chief of this daily, Arbana Xharra, considers that current calmness of the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci is quite reasonable, “being that he has always had a plan B and that he calculates every single move in advance.” She considers that except for Vetevendosje, Thaci knows all the other opposition leaders very well because he has trapped them at least once.
Representatives of the Vetevendosje movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), held today a press conference at “Mother Teresa” square, where they informed that 101 thousand and 672 Kosovo people signed the petition against establishment of the Association of the Municipalities with Serb majority and demarcation of the border with Montenegro.
The Vetevendosje Movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) have reached a principle agreement on a joint election list and have agreed to block the institutional life until Kosovo goes to early parliamentary elections. Unnamed sources told TV Dukagjini that the opposition wants elections to be held in late October or early November. The same sources said that the agreement led to the AAK and NISMA joining the Vetevendosje action of throwing eggs at Prime Minister Mustafa at the Assembly today.
The three leaders of the united opposition in Kosovo, Visar Ymeri (Vetevendosje), Ramush Haradinaj (AAK) and Fatmir Limaj (NISMA), signed today the petition which requests rejection of the recent agreements reached in Brussels between Pristina and Belgrade and demarcation of the border with Montenegro.
After signing the petition, AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said that the reached agreements do not harm Kosovo only politically, but on the judicial and economic aspects as well.
The paper in its front-page editorial today writes that the new opposition front established by the Vetevendosje Movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and Initiative for Kosovo (VAN) to oppose the government and its decisions is very encouraging.
