The Committee for Foreign Affairs, met today with Zahir Tanin, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General. After the meeting which lasted more than two hours, Tanin said to the media that UNMIK is a decision of the Security Council and that this is the reason why they are here. He also said that they will be in Kosovo as long as the Security Council wants them to be.

Despite many statements about the start of Special Court indictments in June of this year, it appears that this will happen six months later.

Statement of one of the judges of this Court hinted that the initial indictments cannot be raised before December.

Charles L. Smith said for the local daily “Nonpareil” that he “will not be traveling for Hague before the end of the year, because this is how much time would be required for the indictments to be concluded by the prosecutor.”

The U.S. expert on Balkan matters, Daniel Serwer, said at the conference “Kosovo Security Force – Perspective of the Future” organized by RIDEA Institute that Kosovo needs to be contributor of the security and not only its consumer. “What needs to be done more is to convince is to convince Serbs that KSF will not be against them, but it will be there to defend and react toward some external threat,” he said.

The U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo Greg Delawie, spoke at the conference “Kosovo Security Force – Perspective of the Future” organized by RIDEA Institute.

He said that the U.S. supports Kosovo’s legitimate right to defend itself.

“As your friend, I am telling you that forming the Army through the change of the draft-law is not the best for the future in NATO,” Delawie said.

During the second day of his visit to Washington, Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj continued with the meetings at the House of Representatives as well as Senators of the U.S. Congress from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Kosovo Assembly MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said at the round-table organized by Kosovar Centre for Security Studies, that Kosovo cannot wait for Serbia to change its rhetoric with regards to the independence of Kosovo.

Head of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Pal Lekaj, proposed today again during the Assembly session a resolution related to Ramush Haradinaj’s case. He said that discussions with Serbia should suspend until Haradinaj’s release.

The coalition government parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) were pro resolution for Haradinaj, however they said that the text of the resolution should be harmonized.

After the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), the Initiative for Kosovo, (NISMA) also confirmed that they would vote the law for the change of the mandate and increase of competencies of the Kosovo Security Force.

Kosovo’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj, expressed his concern with regards to the decision of the Colmar Court in France to delay the session for the former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj.

During the regular plenary session of the Assembly, Hoxhaj said that today’s decision of the Colmar court is disappointing.

Deputy President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Xhavit Haliti, said that the border between Kosovo and Montenegro was predetermined and Kosovo institutions cannot move it despite the major objections of the opposition parties and civil society.
